20220222 - Moon 61%(-) - First lunar mosaic, getting closer to the lunar landing spots 😎

What’s in the picture(s)

What was the experience
20220222 Palindroom day, the day that we suddenly had clear skies, after months of clouds. The scopes were set, capturing DSO’s during the night, with the moon only lighting up the sky in the later part of the night.

By dawn’s early night, the moon was still shining in the blue morning sky. I pointed both scopes and captured some data. Practicing the lunar capturing, continuing the learning curve on ‘planetary’ processing.

While the TS94 was capturing an ‘overall’ lunar image, I had the TS140 look in a bit closer. The Oiii filter was still selected in the EFW from the last DSO. Making a couple of videos, I realised I should try to make a mosaic, so I captured some overlapping videos, afterwards noticing I missed out on the full moon but just a tiny corner

Improved on the exposure and gain settings for the capture, and fine-tuned the learning on the planetary stacking and wavelets processing 😎 Some of the crater rim tops seem a over-blown. Not sure if that is down to processing or the exposure time.

First time lunar mosaic with Lightroom. Seemed to have worked out fine, except for an edge-artefact near Sinus Iridum which I currently still don’t know how to get this resolved in the processing, and a slightly over-exposed western edge of the moon - Any suggestions welcome 🙏

A decent image, quite happy with the small detail. Rupes Recta and Copernicus Crater are nicely visible, and quite some flow details in the Mare

I’m happy 😎 … I'm getting closer to the lunar landing spots 😎

How it was done
Scope: TS140 APO (FL 910mm)
Mount: CEM70G
Camera: ASI2600MM Pro
Filter: Baader Oiii
Photons: 20220223 07:28 5ms Gain 400 RAW8 281s 1585 frames 20% stacked (3x)
Processing: AutoStakkert, Registax, PixInsight, Adobe Lightroom (Mac)

What have I learned from this
Standard lunar processing practice seems to be ‘under control’. Now comes the fine-tune learning 🤩 Need to fine tune exposure settings and wavelets. Getting closer to the lunar landing spots 😎

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
